Some information on researching Glenboig Fireclay Brick factory

Thank you for your enquiry relating to Glenboig Brick Works.
 
Unfortunately we hold very little detailed information relating specifically to Glenboig Brick Works e.g employee records indeed there is no guarantee that records of this type have survived.

In our U27 collection  U27 1827  we hold a thesis by J. Harold completed in 1972 entitled “Glenboig Union Fireclay Company Ltd, 1882-1921”.

In the U6 collection we hold six pages U6 0732 – U6  0737  from the Glenboig Union Fireclay Company’s catalogue 1910 c.  showing variously ridge tiles, wall coping, grease traps, grease boxes, cattle troughs, a collage of the different offices contained in the works office building, pipes, fountains and vases manufactured by the company.

We also hold a photograph of an advert from the company 1910 c. U6 731  showing the various works operated by the company including Old Works, Star Works, Gartcosh Works and Cumbernauld Works.

We have some more general Glenboig related material such as U27 2551  typed notes by Craig Geddes (former archivist) entitled “An Introduction to the History of Glenboig” 1994 or U27 2643  article entitled “Willie MacDonald’s Schooldays in Glenboig 1918-1927”.

We have some Ordnance Survey maps of the Glenboig area as well as a small number of photos.

All of these items are held at Airdrie Local Studies Library, Airdrie Public Library, Wellwynd Airdrie, ML6 OAG   Tel 01236 758073   Opening hours Wednesday – Friday 10 - 4.30 (closed 1-1.30 for lunch.

All re Mr Pilkington's case against the Glenboig Union Fireclay Co. Arising from his being injured while removing stoops of clay at Glenboig Mine, 1954. [CLOSED]
