American Set

Hi all
I don’t know if any of you can help at all, we found my Mamgu’s wedding list the other day.  (They got married about 1931 in cilgerran). 
We found the usual towels and things listed as wedding presents but she also listed 2 gifts of American Sets,  we cannot for the life of us work out what this might be.

Any ideas?

Did two different people gave her an "American set" or did she get two sets from one person?

Looking at newspaper ads around that time an American Set was a type of radio/wireless.  However, lists of wedding gifts include "linen American set" and "embroidered linen American set", which might be more likely.

Alternatively, The Bystander of 11 Dec 1929 has an illustration of "A Hercules embroidered American set, which consists of two pillow-cases and a bolster case.  They will wear and wash marvellously well"

The other things on the wedding list that made me laugh were they were given 4 x clocks and.....
