Joseph Henry Simmons married Sarah Jane Shanny in 1901

Those 1911 names, Joseph snr and Joseph jnr match with this.

It looks as though your friend will have to get the birth certificate.

Thomas married Eliza Pook but they are living apart in 1901 and 1911.

There is a child Sidney born 1904 with mmn Pook.

Does your friend think Littleford is correct for the mother of his Joseph?
Does he have the marriage certificate for Joseph and Elizabeth Hough?
That would have father’s name.

There is a Pook tree which has Eliza Pook married to James Thomas Simmons b 1871 (no verification).
There are several children born to this marriage.

The marriage just shows Thomas as a name.

Thomas William John Simmons and Joseph Henry Simmons have mmn Dubber.

Joseph may be being raised by his grandmother, Elizabeth Littleford in 1911.

The difficulty is that Fanny Littleford married William Davies and seems to with him in 1911 elsewhere.

However, you can see in that 1911 link, there is a daughter, Fanny.

I think you may need a good spade to dig 

Perhaps it is the wrong family but those two daughters in 1911 have the same first names as two Littleford daughters who married and seem to be in 1911 census with their respective spouses.

Did 'your' Joseph Simmons marry Elizabeth Hough in 1929? If so, his birth date is 6th December 1905 and so is the one registered in January 1906.
