By trial and error to some degree

Below is a screenshot of the FindMyPast categories.  One way to find something is to click on the search button at the top which then gives you a drop list of other categories.  For instance you can click on the  A-Z Index and search for a record through that.



Ashford: Somerset, London
England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire
White: Bristol
Windo - Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire

Thanks Girl Guide. I guess I hadn't appreciated that accessing the data sets in different ways gives you different fields to search. Thanks will explore more.
