More information about a marriage
« on: Tuesday 14 January 20 20:26 GMT (UK) »
I have found a marriage via the Victoria public records website that is of interest to me, but it looks as though there is no further information to be had unless I buy the certificate.  Could someone please confirm or suggest other sources of info?

The marriage is between Ruth Hicks and James Robert Davis in 1857.

Thanks
Lisa

Sadly though it confirms she is not the lady I am looking for, as mine was not the eldest daughter, and her father was a felt hat maker, not a coach builder.

Thank you for your efforts

Do you have more information on your Ruth Hicks and we can see if we can help?

Where born? Parents names? Siblings?

There were two Ruth Hicks born in Bitton/Oldland Gloucestershire in 1838. Mine has parents George (the felt hat maker, b1790) and Mary, and baptised 22 July 1838 in Oldland.

The other has parents Daniel and Elizabeth, and was baptised 3 April 1838.

Just to complicate things even more, there’s a 3rd Ruth Hicks b1839 in Bristol to William  and Mary Ann, and a 4th born 1843, although slightly further afield in Thornbury, Gloucestershire.

I definitely have my Ruth in 1841 and 1851 census with parents. There is a possibly in 1861, as a servant at the vicarage, but that could be the other Ruth.

I had a previous thread about her. I’ll just go and find it for reference.

Thank you. I think a certificate purchase or three may be called for, to rule in or out.
