Looking for a Birmingham burial in 1861
« on: Tuesday 14 January 20 16:41 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to tidy up a loose end and find a burial record for Elizabeth Allen age 42 (age taken from GRO site) likely the first quarter of 1861. The age would fit in well with other information I have. Likely will be purchasing her death certificate, but would like to find a burial record for her.

I have her husband a widower on the 1861 census living Gooch Street, Birmingham in the Ecclesiastical district of St Lukes and I know he remarries in 1863, his second bride also a widower whose first marriage may have been to a relative of Josephs (still researching this possible connection).

Any help with locating the burial is much appreciated.
Many thanks
Kev.

Hi,

That was quick, I had seen that as a possible, but thought the burial date was possibly a little late for a death recorded in the first quarter of the year, and with her husband Joseph recorded as a widower on the 1861 census, which I believe was in April.

Thanks for looking, much appreciated
Kev.

Thanks for the replies

Guessing this Elizabeth Allen age 1 is the Key Hill burial in June.

Birmingham burial records site

Elizabeth Allen
March 1861
Key Hill Cemetery

This sounds promising, is there any chance of finding further details? Would someone living Gooch Street be buried at Key Hill, I don't know Birmingham well and certainly not in 1861. I know from google maps they are not a million miles apart, and Gooch Street would have been much different back then.

Many thanks

Hello again

Have just had a look on Findmypast and missed that two of the four returns for Birmingham in 1861 were potentially different Key Hill burials. One entry indicates the June date, the other has no date given, guessing this is possibly the March burial (assumed both records were for the same burial).

Many thanks
Kev.

Sorry to be a bit of a pest, but have clicked through the Findmypast link to the Midland Ancestors Birmingham Cemeteries website and looking at the index it is showing as only one Elizabeth Allen burial in 1861?

Am I missing something?

Thanks
Kev.
