Looking for the name Curry in Glendermott parish  late 1700- mid 1800s. John Curry farmer lived around then.

I have very little to go on. Joseph Curry was the oldest son of John Curry...farmer...parish of Glendermott.Joseph graduated from Glasgow University 1817 and died age 21 in Argyll Scotland 1818. I am wondering if the early family had come from Argyll at the time of Plantation. I am Scottish myself and some of my Currie forebears came from the area where Joseph died. I have looked up a few Curry Wills but the dates dont tally.

I have found a couple of John Currys in Londonderry....one being John Charley Curry who died in 1867. I have seen this name before. I have also noticed a few Curry/Curries  in Antrim. I find the geography a bit confusing but would be pleased to hear of your Curry links. Im always hoping I will get a wee breakthrough somewhere.

There are Curry families located in Doneamana or Dunamanagh Co Tyrone. Both spellings are used. Donemana is 13 miles from the Glendermott Parish. Two churches are located in the parish, one is Presbyterian, the other is Church Of Ireland.You could also check out Glendermott Church Of Ireland which is in the Glendermott parish. I live in the Glendermott Parish.

Sorry,forgot to add that my wife's sister is married to a Curry.Will be seeing him very soon and will see if he has any info on his family. Maybe he could have info that will help you in your search.Also,I will check out Glendermott Parish Church graveyard and see if there are any Currys buried there!

Thanks for this information....much appreciated. I found an "Ordinance Survey of the County of Londonderry" covering 18th and 19th centuries. Over that period it mentions quite a few Currys and in the early 1800s the Mayor of Londonderry is John Currie and Chamberlain is Joseph Curry. It may be coincedence but in 2018 Joseph is referred to as the "late" Joseph Curry so must have died 2018 and reference made to his heirs. I wondered if he could have been the Joseph Curry that I am researching as there were another couple of things which supported that theory and the dates tally. I would be really grateful for any further info on the Currys as if nothing else would be interesting to find out any Irish/Scottish link....especially with Argyll. I think I found a John Charley Curry memorial in ?Glendermott.
