Was Salthill Railway Cottage a home for the elderly?

Maybe they were young when they went there and were elderly by time a train arrived?

Thank you, Hallmark. I am following up your helpful Council reference in hope. Your second reference to the lengthy planning document is fascinating. I've read it through and recommend it to anyone interested in how a detailed analysis of an area and its changes through history should be made. It is a classic, even without mention of Railway Cottage. Many thanks.

There was a railway house attached to the railway station at Salthill, Co Dublin. In the 1901 census the occupant is Richard Grogan (stationmaster) and he has a family and some relation and boarders staying. The house/cottage is long gone.

there were 7 rooms in the house

The roadway leading to the railway station was also used by the Salthill Hotel and in 1901 Mr Parry was the proprietor

In the 1911 census the Station cottage is a more realistic 2 rooms. It could be that the other rooms were used as ticket hall, waiting rooms etc when a smaller family occupied the cottage.
