Help needed to date name tag
« on: Sunday 05 January 20 14:40 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I’m hoping this is the right board?

I’m trying to date the type font used for this name tag. Is is mid/late Victorian?

Thanks in advance for any advice provided.

It would help if we could see the whole tag instead of part of it.

It looks as if there is a surname on there - SAYER? Esq

Underneath it appears to say CHARING, then under again to the right KEA......

Do I take it that there is not enough name to try and trace it?

Hi
The name on the tag is I Sayer, location Charing, Kent.

I’m most interested to learn what time period this tag might date from.

Thanks

Hhmm, I don't actually know but I'm guessing Victorian.  I don't think it is a military tag as there are no numbers on it.

Was it my imagination or is there a hole in the middle?

The fact that Esq appears after the name would suggest a person of some standing as opposed to a labourer.

I have come across a George Edward Sayer in the 1871 census.  He is living in Charing and is a magistrate so someone of importance.

The address is Pett House, Charing, West Ashford, Kent

Registration district   West Ashford
Archive reference   RG10
Piece number   956
Folio   14
Page   2

Perhaps the Sayer on your tag is related in some way?

Maybe someone else can offer their opinion or will know the date of the tag.

I'm trying to work out what the tag is made of  :-\  And is it bracelet-type or tag-type?  As Girl Guide suggests, an image of the whole tag would be helpful.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
