Date - day calculator
« on: Thursday 02 January 20 23:19 GMT (UK) »
There used to be a little software programme (an app now, I suppose) that would give you the day of the week for any given date.  Does it still exist?  I need to work out what day 18 April 1888 was.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

You can do it in Excel or equivalent.

Put date in..... then Format Cell to Day.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Hello, it has been some time since I have been on here, my lifestyle is in the way  :o

The date in question could be a Wednesday, or it could be a Monday....
See
https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/julian-gregorian-switch.html
and
https://calendarhome.com/calculate/day-of-week
Just apply the country your ancestor was in on the required date and you have it.
And as for using Excel or similar programmes, see the Excel Forum
https://www.excelforum.com/excel-general/1090731-calculating-dates-that-are-before-the-year-1900-a.html

And if you want to exercise your brain and work it out for yourself, for the Gregorian calendar

Giving wednesday :-*
With the Julian formula further down the page.

cheers, falcybe

All you need to do is Google the date

IE
What day was 18th April 1888

It returns Wednesday

I assume if you have Alexa then that should respond with Wednesday
