Hi Everyone,
Would anyone be able to clarify what  Cod:die written at the end of a 1743 Baptismal entry in the parish registers of the Isles of Scilly means?

The image of the entry from family search:-
Margt daughter of Malom Macfarling and Eliz his wife Cod :die

 Am hoping there is a happier explanation as I want this ancestor to survive because she would fit a missing piece of the family tree. :)

Can you please link to the image on Fam Search,  or at least tell us which image number it is.

Or just post a clip.

It is in place of the date so I would imagine it just means something like 'on the same day' (as the baptism before).

It does look cod die - there is another instance (Joseph Woodcock) a couple of entries away. However I wondered if it could be eod die- an abbreviation of eodem diewhich does indeed mean the same day. Struggling to find another lower case e or c on the page to compare the two instances with, but I think Debra is right.

Not sure what you have on Margarets Father but on this Bapt his occp is a Soldier;

As Dundee and SelDen have said it actually says eod[em] die, which simply means 'on the same day', i.e. her baptism took place on the same day as the previous entry.

Thank you so much for solving that Dundee, SelDen and JenB  :). I was hoping COD wasnt "cause of death". Never thought it could be latin! Thank you also for adding the link for me Dundee . :)
 
Thank you Trish for the info on Francis Macfarlan. Malcom was married twice, so Margaret was Francis'  step sister.  I have been unable to find any information on Francis only that  he was witness at his sister Elizabeth's wedding to John Christie in Feb 1756.
