Well, he’s given 3 quite different birthplaces:

1839 Army enlistment: St Mary’s, Lancaster (this was the parish of the town of Lancaster itself)
1851 census: Allerton, Lancashire (this was near Liverpool, now a suburb of Liverpool)
1871 census: Kirklinton, Cumberland (quite a bit further north, near Carlisle and the Scottish border)
Ayr: Barnes, Wylie
Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)
Hants: Stares (Wickham)
Lincs: Maw, Jackson (Epworth, Belton)
London: Pierce
Suffolk: Markham (Framlingham)
Surrey: Gosling (Richmond)
Wilts: Matthews, Tarrant (Calne, Preshute)
Worcs: Milward (Redditch)
Yorks: Beaumont, Crook, Moore, Styring (Huddersfield); Middleton (Church Fenton); Exley, Gelder (High Hoyland); Barnes, Birchinall (Sheffield); Kenyon, Wood (Cumberworth/Denby Dale)

I'm wondering if Cumberland is more correct as he attested in Edinburgh?

Also he had a daughter born in Edinburgh supposedly around about 1847 either by the name of Eliza/Elizabeth.

I've searched Scotlandspeople but can't find any trace of her baptism or any trace of Henry there either.

It’s certainly puzzling. I wonder whether he actually knew where he had been born? Perhaps he came from a family which moved around a lot, as he appears to have done too even after leaving the Army.

not what you were asking for but do you have this one

Baptism: 18 Dec 1901 Christ Church, Salford, Lancashire, England
Henry William Raymond - [Child] of Thomas Landon Raymond & Mina (Lund)
    Born: 22 Oct 1901
    Abode: 7 Peel St. Pendleton
    Occupation: Labourer

as Thomas has the middle name of Landon - Thomas was born in Dublin

Yes I do have this baptism.

I think the middle name of Landon comes from Henry's wife Anna Lennon as I have found a lot of people called Landon Lennon so unfortunately I don't think it points to Henry's relatives.

I can't find any other Raymonds born in the Lancashire and Cumberland area either on the censuses or any records of their baptisms that would fit, such as siblings of Henry or his parents.
