Death Cert's. How to answer question's?
« on: Saturday 20 August 05 08:16 BST (UK) »
How do you find out a date for a death in order to get a death cert?
Robert Norris was in Hammersmith in 1901 census with wife Katharine and children.
He was born in Holborn sometimes Kilburn 1869/70....?

Hi Lesanne

If the person was still alive in 1901 then I think the only place for looking for the death is 1837online, though unless you have some idea of when he died it's going to cost you an awful lot of money :(

happy hunting

Luckily for most people, events in the C20th are still covered by living memory, even if it is somewhat hazy, so usually descendants can say roughly when someone has died, or might have died, because they know they were no longer around when they were born etc. So its helpful if you are in contact with any descendants of this line. Or is Robert likely to be in directories. I have tracked peoples' entries in directories to see when they disappeared, (of course they could have moved) or with men at this time through electoral rolls is also a possibility.

Valda

  Hi Bee and Valda,    :D

My thanks for your replies. I'm afraid I have no idea when or where he died.

The list of birth places for his children, I thought, might help but nothing.

Even bmd and 1837 need approx age. I  signed with Ancestry,  to find this info.

But, hey, sun's shining  8) and I get tomorrow off.   :D

Hi Lesanne,

A complete shot in the dark but these are the only Robert Norris on the NBI after 1901 and I wondered if there might be any clues for you:

15   Jun   1907   Marmaduke Robert W   NORRIS   35   Yorks N/R   Sowerby [nr Thirsk], St Oswald
19   Aug   1904   Robert George   NORRIS   58   Somerset   Chilthorne Domer, Blessed Virgin Mary
15   Jan   1901   Robert George Irvine   NORRIS   4   Berks   Sunningdale, Holy Trinity
2   Jul   1901   Robert Hilary   NORRIS   3d   Berks   Sunningdale, Holy Trinity

Good luck and enjoy your day off.

Jill

:D  Jill, Thanks so much for spending time looking up Robert.
He was born 1869/70, Kilburn/Holborn Middx.
Making him 31/32 yrs old in 1901.

                      CWGC has nothing either.   :-
I have left posts for him most places I can think of, even on Mack's WW1 site.

                                                Thanks again.   Lesanne.  :)

Is there any way you can get access to a street directory for the area he was living in 1901, eg Gores Directory or something similar. They were usually printed annually. Through these you can check addresses and occupations, and you should be able to see when he disappears from the listings. It could take you a while to find the year of death, but I've found quite a lot of info using this method.
There are some Gores Listings on a website but I'm not sure which years and which areas they cover.
Try searching through Google for Gores
Good luck!

Couldn't get anything after 1901 in Gores, put in "Old Directories" and spent
a jolly 2 hours having a browse. Found enough shop keepers and prof's.
Did find a Robert in 1908, just, is he mine...?

        And,... some florist's, Norris Brother's. I wonder.. ::)  ::)
