BOUGHEN, FULLER, BANHAM (and Woodley)  :)

Hugh Boughen, born ~1796 Saham Toney, was a farmer of 40 acres in Kerdistone, Aylsham, Norfolk in 1851 employing 4 Men, 3 Boys & 3 Women. He married Susan (born Beechamwell) and they had at least a couple of daughters Eleanor and Sarah, who were both born in Shipdham.

Hugh comes from a line of Norfolk farmers, all named Hugh Boughen, who date back to the 1750's where High Common (Shipdham) is farmed under tenancy by them. Boughen's farm was finally auctioned off in 1921. Hugh's father Hugh Boughen had married a Sarah Fuller in 1789 at Maidenhall, Suffolk.

In 1871 we find the girls staying with their "cousin" Eliza Woodley at Oxford Lodge, (17) Manor Road, Folkestone. Eleanor seems to like the area so in 1881 she has settled at Hillside St, 2 Myrtle Cottage, Hythe, St Leonard, Kent.

Susan's cousin(?) Sarah Fuller was married in Beechamwell 1816 to John Woodley and they moved to London where their children were christened at St Olave Hart Street. John's sons John "Bankam" Woodley and Matthew Fuller Woodley worked as corn factors on the London Corn Exchange. They married two sister's Eleanora Maria Allen and Lucy Bedford Allen from Walthamstow Essex whose family were stock brokers. Bankam may be a misspelling of Banham?

In 1891 we see one of John Bankam's sons Thomas Herbert Woodley boarding at 1 Lawson Villas, Glenwood Road, Catford, Lewisham, with Jane Banham and Mary Banham, two spinsters from Harlestone (or Norwich), Norfolk.

Any links?
Geoff.

I am intrigued that there are three of you expressing an interest in the surname Boughen and yet there is no entry for that name in the surname interests table.
