WWII Photo Restoration Silvercedar

Hello,
Would it be possible for anyone to clean up this photo a bit?  The photo was taken after my dad's ship, the Silvercedar, was sunk by a torpedo in the North Atlantic, Oct. 1941.  My dad and crewmates were rescued by a French ship called the Mimosa.  Someone on the Mimosa took pictures of the rescue and sent them back to Liverpool.  My dad got a copy of the series of photos.  This is the only one that isn't clear, but I can still see my dad right in the middle of the group!  I'd know his smile anywhere.

Any chance of a better scan? With the amount of damage to your photo restorers will need as much help as they can get. You're allowed to post a file of up to 500 kb on here and yours is less than 50 kb.

Not directly concerned with your request to clean up your photograph.
I don't know what information you have on the sinking of SILVERCEDAR but I have a copy of the official Survivors Report if you need it.

Thanks for your interest.  I have trouble uploading pictures here.  I had the original size, but I got an error message saying that it was too large to post here.  I will do a little research on how to fix this.  Thanks!

Thanks so much for your message.  Dad did return to sea as soon as he could according to his discharge book.  He said that he survived because he slept with his life jacket on.  I think that I have seen the survivor's report, but I'm going to follow your link just to make sure.  I will post a picture taken after the rescue of my dad and a shipmate, Arthur Kelly.  Arthur was just 16.  I was in touch with Arthur up to 2 years ago, but I've not heard from him of late.  In the picture I will post my dad is the taller man to the left.  He and Arthur are wearing "Free French" uniforms as they lost everything in the sinking.  Dad passed away in 2006.  Thanks for your interest, and I will follow that link.

This was in the Liverpool Echo after the sinking of the Silvercedar.  Funny that I could post the picture of Dad and Arthur Kelly with no error message.  I will look into the sizing of my original picture.  I will sort this out

Testing my resize attempt ...  Not sure if restore will be possible.  This is a terrible picture of a faded photograph.  Sorry.  I don't own the original.  It is in my cousin's house, and I just took a picture of the photo that was placed on her kitchen table.  Worth a try though 


Now, only half of it shows up.  Sorry.  Just ignore my feeble attempts.  By messing around with the resizing I can see my dad better in this picture at least.  Thanks anyway-  Maureen

I note that your father is not recorded on the Crew List by uboat.net. (Arthur Kelly is)
For the sake of history and the memory of your dad this needs to be amended.
If you have not got a copy of the original Crew of SILVERCEDAR, (official number 147694) it can be obtained from here.

Just ask for the LAST  Crew Agreement and Logbook.

Was your dad born in Liverpool 03/05/1924? if not could you give his date and place of birth?
