hi trying to trace my great grandfather, James McDowall, he had a son Donald McDowall born around 1873 in Glasgow.
his son Donald married Mary Reilly in Glasgow 1894 trying to trace if James McDowall was born in Scotland or Ireland can anyone help

Scotlands People has his parents marriage in 1871.  Downloading a copy will give you both James & Isabella's parents names plus their mothers maiden names

There is an 1861 entry for a James McDowall b 1840 Ireland.  Parents are Hugh & Rose

Won't confuse matters by posting details until you have downloaded the 1871 marriage cert and confirmed his parents names

looked at the marriage certificate of James and isabella James father was also James and his mother's maiden name was smith I think cant make it out on the certificate isabella's mother was mary McDonald nee Cameron can't make out the fathers first name

Isabella McDonald McDowall died young? A likely death shows for her in 1887, aged 33. Death in Anderston, Glasgow.
