Hi Terry,
I do have the same email and did get this, thank you so much!
Do you have a copy of the death certificate that I could take a look at please? That would be amazing! There was someone in the village that showed me a photo of a certificate and sledging from her funeral, but that was a long time ago and was via my ex partner’s family.
A crazy thing happened - I was metal detecting there and I found a women’s silver pocket watch from the 1860s and it was engraved “A. Ford - Fitling”. I did my research and found that Ann Ford was the sister of Edith’s Grandad who lived in Garton (who you mentioned in your post). Ann was at Canham’s Farm in Fitling years before working but passed way before Edith was born. I personally think the pocket watch was given to Edith by her Grandad as it was his sister’s and what a lovely gift to receive on your birthday. I think she fell in and that was lost in the pond. I found it where the pond used to be, as it used to be bigger than it is today.
Crazy story, but I think that it adds up completely well. I have photos of the watch I found somewhere, so I’ll find it but I don’t have access to it as my ex partners family kept it.
Edith was apparently working at the farm, and one story I heard was that she fell in from her bicycle when her dress got caught in the wheel. I’m not sure how true that part is, but nonetheless, a very sad story.
Hope you’re well,
Thank you very much!!
