Hi NG,
Apologies, I haven't been online for a while.
This is the info. exactly as it's typed in the book...
DESTINATION UNKNOWN 125
SUE 612 BL2043
John MacLeod 1791- = Marion 1801-, Kirsty 1826-, Neil 1829-, Kate 1821-, Donald 1834-, Ann 1840-
John MacLeod and family emigrated from Uachdar in the 1840s SC41
This is the references...
125 = Pg No.
SUE 612 = South Uist Emigrants & their entry no. (gives an indication of the amount of families)
BL2043 = Bill Lawson' own resource collection
SC41 = Scottish 1841 Census
The introduction has 7 x A4 sheets giving a bit about emigration from the islands in general, how the info. was gathered & sources used, general history about S/Uist & Benbecula.
The extra info. does not apply to any 1 family in particular, any info. about them is written in their entry.
I will try & explain your quote as best I can from your quote using bold as reference...
"It says Date of emigration and place of settlement in the New World. Port of embarkation, date of birth and/or death, marital information, and reference to original sources are also provided. Much historical and genealogical information are also provided. I’m wondering what other info is included."
There are no specific dates as there are no passenger lists as such although it is known the majority left for Canada with the exception of info. re the Lulan (1848). Those with 'Destination Unknown' have not been traced by BL.
BL explains the lists were drawn up from people who disappeared from census records, later found on Canadian census', Obits, MIs & other published sources e.g. OGS (Ontario Genealogical Society), HOW (History of Wapella) Wapella Centennial Committee
The place of settlement, again from Census' etc.
There are no specific dates of birth, only years which were taken from the Census of the years prior to disappearing i.e. circa dates
There is no specific info. on deaths as such apart from 1791-1860, 'dii' (died in infancy) or 'dy' (died young)
There is no specific info. on marriages apart from '=', 's.o. or d.o.' (son/dau of) with the name of the husband/wife (most have MS) (maiden surname) &/or 'WO' (widower/widow of x) &/or name of 2nd wife
I searched for an e.g. of one with more details than that of your family & as they're all different I decided to do a mock one i.e. not any exact family in the book but an example which incorporates all likely info. on any entry...
