« on: Friday 25 October 19 12:08 BST (UK) »
Hi any one have anything on Jasper James Logie? Son of James Logie and Sarah Elizabeth nee Poole? Born about 1868 possible st Saviour ? I can not find a birth record but he is in the census  1871 and 1881, but then disappears. Also his mum known as Lizzie in the 1871 census but not in 1881 as James Logie is listed as a widower. I can not find her death certificate. She was born in Scarborough in 1844. Any help grateful. D

It looks as though Jasper James emigrated to Australia.

He married Lydia Theresa Botley in Victoria in 1894.

Daughter Linda Ivy born/registered at St Peter’s, NSW in 1895, but died aged 7 months in April 1896.

Lydia died in Sydney in 1897.

Jasper died in Victoria in 1953.

Thanks for this. Yes I already knew this as I found out he deserted his ship in Australia!! I found name of ship and dates. I reckon he left London after 1881. There are newspaper reports of his baby and wife deaths posted by his wife's family. Jasper was my second great uncle on my father Logie side. I can't believe that he was alive in the 50's. My dad would have liked to have contacted him. But he had no idea of his existence in Australia. I wasn't sure if he remarried and had any further children. My search continues. Many thanks for your time and response. D

Only Poole I can find was Sarah Elizabeth Poole Mar.qtr.1844 Scarborough who in 1861 census is in Southwark with mother Ann.   The Henry Poole with James Logie in 1881 is, I think, Sarah's brother.   He's said to have been bc.1835 Manchester and in 1841 at Manchester is a Henry Poole 6, son of Thomas and Ann.  (In 1851 he is in Ross, Herefordshire.).

So 'Lizzie' in 1871 could be Sarah Elizabeth Poole but cannot find a marriage to James Logie nor can I find a birth for Jasper under Logie or Poole but there are entries for Leon Lionel and Ada Adine mmn Poole at St Saviour.

Hi
The Henry Poole born 1836 Manchester on the 1881 census is married to an Elizabeth Logie born 1835 in Kirkwall so the family are doubly connected.
There seems to be no marriage for them either in England and Wales and their eldest daughter Rose's birth reg is also missing.

Sarah Elizabeth Poole is on the 1851 census with her parents
1851 Oxford St Gloucester
Thomas Pool 41 mail guard Macclesfield
Ann 42 Macclesgfield
Ann 12 Liverpool
Frank R 9 Manchester
Sarah E 7 Scarborough
Emily 4 Glos
Thomas E 14 so Manchester
Eliza Hill 16 servant St Michaels Wood Glouces

1861 10 Maze Pond Southwark
Ann widow 52 lodging house keeper Macclesfield
Sarah E 17 Scarbourough

Her mother is a Miss Duncalf -marriage 13 Sep 1830 Manchester St John Thomas Pool of Manchester lab and Ann Duncalf. wit Thomas and Sarah Duncalf .

As you say seems to be no marriage or death for Sarah Elizabeth Poole.
I checked all the ones in London 1861-1881 and none with  father Thomas.
Last sign of Lizzie is daughter Ada Adine 's baptism 10.3.1872 St George the Maytr.

James is a single lodger in 1861 in London so it would seem odd they didn't marry there.

1851 Leith South 6 Carlton St
Gilbert Thomas Logie 48 dyer Kirkwall
Ann 48 Strousay Orkney
Gilbert 27 clerk Orkney
Jane G 23 Kirkwall
James 22 Kirkwall clerk
Elizabeth dressmaker 20 Kirkwall
John T 18 clerk
Ann T 16
Margaret 15
Barbara 13
Robert 11
William 9
George R 6 Kirkwall
Agnes 4 Kirkwall

In 1861 Gilbert is a bookseller in Edinburgh at 15 Chapel St

Elizabeth marries Charles Mcintosh 22.1.1861 atEdinburgh and in 1861 census is with him at 3 Windmill St.
He is 30 a letter press printer and she is 26 born Kirkwall.
So James and his sister Elizabeth are both massaging their ages a bit.
It looks like her husband died  1865 in Edinburgh .

Many thanks for all this information. It pretty much matches all my research too and I am grateful as your dates all match mine. Thanks for the extra Poole details. Yes James Logie does change his age especially when he went onto marry in 1882 a much younger woman. I have Ada Adine Logie birth certificate and her mother is Sarah Elizabeth Logie nee Poole and the father is James. But as you say there is no record of marriage or death certificate. It's all mysterious! My dad said that there was a rumour of a James Logie running off with a younger woman. I reckon James met Lizzie whilst he was a lodger in the lodging houses owned by Lizzie mum. I searched for death records for all variants of names but nothing. James death certificate was informed by his son Leon Lionel Logie, also Lizzie son.
I reckon there is something dodgy about Lizzie disappearance. Her son Jasper J Logie was a seaman and deserted in Australia. I wonder if she followed her son there?
Many thanks again for all the replies, much appreciated. Regards D
