I am researching Richard Nichols and his sons Richard and George who were English Merchants.  The only information I have is 1841 to 1901 Census. According to the census they were General Merchants and in the 1871 Census son Richard was a Spanish and General Merchant.  Would anyone be able to advise me where to search for information about these merchants and the Companies they had.

There are directories on ancestry that may give a broader description.

When was Richard senior born, or sons Richard and George

So far directories are not much help.

Pigots Directory1885
Richard C Nicholls
34 Kenilworth Road, St Leonards On Sea

1875
Richard C Nichols
9 Rood Lane E.C.  merchant

Do you have the wills
George Henry died 23 March 1877 St Leonards on Sea, exec wife Ellen the actual will may list properties he owned.

Richard Nichols (senior) died 27 September 1861 a St. Leonards on Sea probate 9 January 1862 to sons George Henry Nichols and Richard Croft Nichols.
His will should have more detail as he needed to divide his estate between his sons unless he had sold everything prior to his death.
