Well, that was the perfect find Niell  :) All the details from there link to what we have here so far.

His death cert from 1872 should provide you with his parents' names. I would guess his son, Rev. James, could well be the informant maybe.

If it does turn out to be William Wilson and Elizabeth Ramage, there is this old thread here on RC that mentions them www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=65115.0

There are a couple of family trees on Ancestry for siblings Mary and Rev James if you have access.

William was born in Wanlockhead Dumfriesshire?.
Elisabeth had 4 siblings: Williamson Ramage and 3 other siblings.
Elisabeth married William Wilson on month day 1781, at age 23 at marriage place.
William was born circa 1740.
They had 6 children: Christian Watson (born Wilson), Deborah Hastie (born Wilson) and 4 other children.

Just watch when searching for Elizabeth as often her name is showing with an 's' rather than 'z'.

Thank you Monica.

Just found some gold-dust in the Carpshairn Archives online. A full breakdown of Wilsons from Charles' grandfather William Wilson all the way down to myself, sister and first cousins! I will post the link below, as well as on that other thread you posted earlier.

https://www.carsphairn.org/CarsphairnArchive/items/show/1094

Hopefully someone else can use it as well  :)

Regarding Peter's eldest brother William who died young, there was mention in the link you have that he died at Woodhead Mine followed by his wife. Ages not quite a match but looks to be him.

I think he is listed in entry No. 91 here www.carsphairn.org › original › 628be30a1082edfe0d4c6ef715bee76c

Just click on the second number link.

Added: Link to cemetery entries not working but will if you just copy the number and letters string to you search box.

Wow, that is a gift of info, Niell. Thanks be to Peter's diaries and his descendants for writing this all up.

I hope you can read German for parts of it  ;)

Hello Neill,
Peter Wilson was the father of my grandmothers mother Bessie Dingeldey (Wilson).
I got some information for you. As far as I know from afamily tree Charles Wilson (Peters father) was the son of William Wilson (*1740, +19.6.1802 in Wanlockhead) and Elisabeth Ramage (*1760, + 7.3.1839). William Wilsons parents were Matthew Wilson and Deborah Lee.
Kind regards
Pieter

If you need a wee bit of help with the German let me know. It's too long for me to translate the whole thing!

PS the tree attached to the German article says that the parents of William Wilson b 1740 were William Wilson and Janet Dobie. That baptism is in the index as Scotland's people, on 31 March 1740 in the parish of Crawford and Leadhills.

Where did Matthew Wilson and Deborah Lee come from?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
