CLARK - Scotland to New Zealand
« on: Monday 21 October 19 02:57 BST (UK) »
Hi Folks,

Getting back into my family tree and have hit the brick wall. I have my great uncle ALFRED HODSON CLARK born Aberdeen 1917 and his wife Margretta Hyslop Dempster McMillan born 1919. I have them from birth, marriage, through the war and electoral rolls until 1970 then they appear to move to Horowhenua Manawatu-Wanganui approx 1970 - 1981. This is where Ancestry stops.  This couple would be 102 and 100 years old this year. I know its possible that they may still be alive so there are no more records to find. I did find a record on NZ Company Directory for their son but I think the company has ceased trading. Any suggestions where else I can try?

Many thanks

KBG

Have you tried a cemetery search?

It won’t let me search, on the iPad: https://www.horowhenua.govt.nz/Services/Cemeteries/Cemetery-Search

Deaths:

1999/7288   Clark   Margretta Hyslop Dempster   5 May 1919

1990/35403   Clark   Alfred Hodson   4 November 1917

It is preferable to order a printout. They are cheaper, may contain more information than a certificate and can be e-mailed.  :)

Death

1990/35403 Clark   Alfred Hodson    4 November 1917
Edit: crossed with reply above

I have checked the Horowhenua District Council and Palmerston North City Council cemetery records online and have not located them.

Do you know where they were living in the 1980's?

I checked the Palmerston North City Council records as people from the Horowhenua area were sometimes buried/cremated at the Kelvin Grove cemetery, Palmerston North.

I have also checked the Wellington and Porirua City Council cemetery records online with no success.

My Grandparents who lived in Levin in the 1970's, were cremated and their ashes scattered in the Kelvin Grove cemetery.

Hi KGB,

I know you have the marriage info, but will post the date of marriage for those helping -- 1938 in Aberdeen. How long ago did you see the record for their son? Do you think there is a chance the son is deceased?  Sometimes, we just have to go a little bit forward, before coming backwards to where we were.

Cheers

Thank you all so much for your help.

The sons business was dissolved in 2003 and only traded for 11 months. Haven't been able to find much more in him or the business.

Thanks again

Hello.

Have you tried for electoral roll enteries for the son whom we must, for now, assume to be living, therefore no naming on the public forum?

Can you give the location of the address for service, for the son's short lived business as a starting point? I assume you found the details on the NZ companies register.

The 1978 and 1981 Horowhenua electoral rolls record Alfred and Margretta living at 39 St Annes Street, Levin.  Alfred's occupation is given as Painter.
