Hi there

Any baptisms of Samuel Burton entries, try to eliminate some with any burials in the relevant parish to see which survive and any left try to follow these downwards in the hope of eliminating.  Occupations and trades are important as well. eg a family of carpenters, or wheelwrights are more skilled than say labouring families. So a trade.  No disrespect i have these all in my never ending family tree.

Use all types of sources, eg Wills
might give you a link with family names included in a Will.

Look for any family trees already made on ancestry or family search as well.

Hope this helps...

you should see some of the family trees on Ancestry! one has a Samuel Burton baptised in London, married in Wakefield, Father died in 1821 and also got married in 1847!

My only other clue is on the marriage of their first son William to a Mary Spencer, the witnesses are a Samuel Burton and a John Burton. I am taking it that Samuel his the father, but cannot find any other info on the John Burton (brother to Samuel/cousin) no other mention on any other marriage certificates.

Regards
Stephen

Hi there, dont know if of use, but hope so!

I guess you have both the burials at Beckett Street Cemetery Leeds,
Samuel Burton of 19 Bath St a Joiner buried Non Conformist Section
75 yrs 27 Jan 1850.  Ages can be approximate on whoever gave the info.

Lucy Burton buried there but in the Anglican Section.

Burial at Rothwell 1784  6 March Samuel Burton (straight entry no occupation listed probably adult burial)

There are a couple of baptisms on Find My Past for Samuel Burton entries:

(1776 to 1781 bptsms)

One at York
One at Thorne
One at Rothwell

Samuel Burton bpt 27 Sep 1771 St Martin Coney Street York son of Thomas Burton (straight entry no occupation listed)

Samuel Burton bpt 13 Oct  1774, at Thorne Yorkshire
son of Christopher Burton a heelman.

Samuel Burton bpt 10 March 1781 son of Samuel and Ann Burton at Rothwell Yorkshire (no occupation listed a straight entry)

Of these two Rothwell is the nearer to Leeds Yorkshire

Pattern of naming may help as well, so any children in your family group
can link back being named after earlier people.

Yorkshire is quite well covered with Church Records.

Best of Luck.
