My gran was a gypsy and I have pictures of her growing up with the traditional caravans. She was related to the Fletchers from the Birmingham area and the Gaskins from Sudbury. Alfred Gaskin was enlisted into the labour corps in byker and he was from Sudbury. He was killed in 1917 outside totes and I visit his grave every year.

She married into the Hunt family who were from Lancashire and possibly originally from Ireland and settled in Gateshead.

Hi, I’m looking to establish if the Gaskin family that appear to have links in Tiptree / Kelvedon are my relatives who were based around Sudbury and some of whom ended up in the north east. Are there any links known to Alfred (Alfie) Gaskin to the Tiptree / Kelvedon mentioned Gaskins ?
As for names, my great grandmother is Eliza Gaskin and she married Bertie Fletcher. Does anyone have any knowledge ?

If I have the correct record, when Eliza married Bertie in 1909 her name was registered as Gascoin.

What was was the relationship between Eliza and Alfred? I see the CWGC record for Alfred is minimal.

You say " she married into the Hunt family". Explain, please.

Hi everyone who took the time to reply. The war record is correct and that is my relative.

Bertie Fletcher and Eliza Gaskin are my great grandparents and my gran, their daughter was lenorah and she married into the Hunt family in Gateshead.

As far as I know the Fletchers were from the Birmingham area.

Alfie Gaskin was enlisted into the army in ww1 at Byker show ground in 1917.
