Thanks everyone. I can’t really afford to increase my subscription atm so I’ll see about the free trial.
It’s strange that he enlisted to the 14th battalion but his records then say the 12th, was that usual do you think?

It was quite common for men to transfer from one battalion to another, sometimes even changing Regiments.
Men went where they were most needed.

To add to jim1's post.  You have his discharge papers assuming you have the documents from Findmypast.   No I have t got a copy of his discharge papers. I’ve not got a subscription to find my past 😞

The same file of service records is on Ancestry. You can see from the "statement of the services" that he transferred from 14th to 12th and off to the BEF in July 1915, then to Depot in February 1916, back to 14th in April 1916, then back to the 12th and off to the BEF again in May 1916.

The 14th were a reserve and later training battalion in England.

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
