To add to jim1's post. You have his discharge papers assuming you have the documents from Findmypast. He was wounded in August 1916 (record on FindMyPast), gun shot wound to the right hand while with 12 Manchesters. He must have returned to duty as this did not result in returning home.
That said, he did have three spells in France, Jul 1915 to Feb 1916, May 1916 to Jan 1917 and then Jul 1917 to Dec 1917 which may indicate some other wounding or sickness. As he wasn't released to the reserve until March 1919 and his discharge was a normal one and he doesn't have a Silver War Badge, his discharge wasn't for a disability.
There is though a pension card record for him on Ancestry under the Fold 3 area which I don't have a sub for. That suggests a claim was made (there is reference to it in his papers) and may have additional information.
You need a sub to Ancestry and Fold 3 to see the pension card or can go through the Western Front Association (if you join)
