This is the tree that I found, but you most likely have already seen it, but interesting to read anyway:

The reference to the ghostly "Lady Dorothy" by Gillg took me back! I also recall my father telling the tale whenever we drove through that area after dark - usually on the way back from visiting relatives. We always watched out for her.... never saw her though.
I also felt that Salmesbury had few if any items of original furniture/paintings left there. The picture of a puritan lady is not very unusual, many portraits around seem to show similar outfits. It's not all that likely that there will realistically be any provable links, I'm afraid. Certainly not signatures.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)
