Hello enrybm,

Am I correct in thinking that your acronym is a scrambled version of "British Home Children"?

If yes, here's a possible for you on their website.
http://www.britishhomechildrenregistry.com/Person/search

He is a Joseph William Robinson, born 1904, arrived Canada 1922 aged 17 on the ANTONIA.

Even if this is not your man, it would be well worth your time to explore this site. There is a wealth of information there.

Cheers,
Westoe

Hi All
Now established that Great Uncle Joseph William Robinson born 1904, Aston Birmingham, went to Canada on the Antonia ship in June 1922 as a British Home Child
Worked on farm in Tottenham, Simcoe, Ontario for a Thomas Best from 1923 (http://heritage.canadiana.ca/.../oocihm.lac_reel.../2675...) to at least 1940 (1940 National Registration - similar to the 1939 English& Wels register pre WW2).
I know he was single and he intimated he wanted training as a radio operator in said 1940 registration possibly in lieu of joining the Army.
So some questions: what records available to prove
* if he joined Army?
* if yes:
** Did he return to Canada after WW2?
** Did he die in Canada
** Does a Best farm still exist in Tottenham, Simcoe, Ontario

Any assistance gratefully accepted

Some additional info in earlier posts

Regards
Martin

Partially answered re death
Seems like ServiceOntario is the only government-authorized source for Ontario death certificates.

Problem is below highlighted
I cannot specify a death year range. To me its anytime after 1940 and I dont want to pay repeat $15 for every 5 years > Any ideas to narrow down

ServiceOntario Website says
Order a death search
You can request a search if you do not know the exact date of death.

A search will verify that the death has taken place and has been registered with the province of Ontario.

You will receive a letter in the mail giving you information that matches the criteria within the years you searched. If no information is found you will still receive a letter stating that no information was found. Applicants can provide a range of years to be searched or a specific year[/i] .If a specific year is provided a five year search will be conducted – two years prior and two years after the year specified. Applicants may request searches for longer periods of time at an additional fee of $15 for every five year interval searched.

To request a search you can use the same online service as a death certificate application but you will select the search option and indicate how many years to search.
