Park family from New Pitsligo , Aberdeenshire.
« on: Sunday 22 September 19 12:20 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Park family from New Pitsligo. I came across a baptism record from 1827 for Peter Park. His parents were John Park and Elizabeth Fowlie whose address was given as Turfhillock.

The following stones are at Millbrex.

William C. Fowlie farmer Turfhillock
This must be linked to the above baptism certificate. If anyone has information regarding this, please let me know.
Park, Cooke, Baxter, Grey.

Having found the Park family in the 1841 & 1851 censuses (by searching Freecen), I noted that they were living in the parish of Strichen. In 1841 the address was Truffhillock. This was part of the Strichen estate & not to be confused with Turfhillock. Elisabeth was born in the parish of Tyrie according to the 1851 census. It must just be a coincidence that she was a Fowlie.
regards,
flst.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm going to search for the dates which I had written down. It's so confusing as there seems to be so many Park's in searches for this area.

Well, it seems we've already given you the answer about Peter Park. Is he the one you are researching? If so, as my post said, the Fowlies interred in Millbrex were from Turfhillock in Fyvie parish.

But now, it gets difficult; my Great Grandfather, Alexander Park was married to Barbara Cook, no problems there, but on the marriage certificate Alexander's father is "reputed" to be Peter Park deceased and his mother is named as Jane Baxter. The date for the marriage is dated 1888 and his occupation is ploughman. This marriage took place in New Pitsligo and is the first instance I can find of my Park family in New Pitsligo. Now I know from family history that my G G Alexander held several occupations, groom, labourer on the roads, hall keeper and gamekeeper. His son, my grandfather, George Cook Park, bred dogs, horses and was a master-watchmaker. He was also the man who opened the garage Park's garage and cycles.

It is always difficult to trace ancestor who is mentioned as a reputed father. I know from my own family tree research! First of all, have you viewed Alexander's birth certificate? It may name his reputed father & may also have a register of corrected entry. This happens when the reputed father is taken to court & admits he is the father. Have you found Alexander on all the censuses forward from his birth? He may have been know by either his father's surname, his mother's maiden name or his stepfather's name or by the name of the person who brought him up! Sometimes you can find out his real father's name by checking the school admission rolls or poor relief applications.
I did notice that the Peter Park, baptised in 1827,died in 1867 aged 40. You have not stated Alexander's date of birth but this may be relevant.
hope this helps, flst.

Thank you so much, this will indeed help. I have a copy of Alexander's marriage certificate but can not find a birth certificate. However, with this date you have given me, I can narrow down the search. Thank you.  :)
