It gets stranger with Delilah,her parents Thomas b1846 and Sarah Ann b1848 have a daughter born 1891 named Gladys .Gro has no mothers surname. Christening has mother Delilah and father Thomas Bates.
Delilah isn't with the family on 1901 census

Barrow in Furness is not that far away from Lancaster.  I have a family member in Barrow in 1911 whose family was in Morecambe 

Thankyou for that rosie, after getting hold of may's birth certificate it says joseph is an iron moulder so i'm pretty sure this is him in 1911!
