Sealey Street Manchester.

Thanks. I know where the various districts start and finish, but what I was getting at is where people say they actually live. Some areas close to a border are referred to as different places by different people....and it still happens today. Old Trafford /Stretford, Walkden/Little Hulton, Crumpsall/Cheetham Hill to name but a few, but does it really matter?

Never thought of the Etihad as being in Newton/Newton Heath, but as I was just saying; different people refer to places by different names.

But they were postal districts , Manchester 10 was Newton -later swallowed up by Miles Platting but still M/c 10.

But Collyhurst isn’t Miles Platting .

Collyhurst started on the left side of Oldham Road, at Great Ancoats Street  from the top of Oldham Street to Queens Road and extended to the left to Rochdale Road.
Sealey Street was changed to or from Baguely St.
On my map of around 1930 ish, it says Sealey St,Manchester 9,then in italics
Baguely St.
Now whether it had been Baguely St then became Sealey St or the other way round I don’t know.

On A-Z's, " A street name, followed by the name of another street in italics, does not appear on the map, but will be found adjoining or near the latter".

Sealey street is in what was known, and still is, known as Monsall, although, in the past it was often referred to as Collyhurst. I think it was sometimes referred to as Miles Platting with being near the end of Queens Road. I had ancestors who lived in that area and at the end of Collyhurst Road, just before the railway, and they both mentioned Miles Platting on occasions.

We called this area Collyhurst, Miles Platting was slightly to the south west and Monsall to the north east of the spot - this old map shows it quite well - the marker is at the corner of Bageley Street and Sealey Street, and you can see Collyhurst written directly above and below.

There was the old district of Newton not quite Newton Heath .
The Etihad stadium is just in that area .
Newton Heath starts on the other side of Hume Hall Lane, ( nothing to do with the district of Hulme  !)
Newton was between Miles Platting and Newton Heath .
I used to live there .
The area over Queens’Road to the right as you travel to Rochdale Road becomes Monsall .

We called that area where the Etihad is Beswick or Bradford. I think it used to be the site of the old Bradford iron works near to Bradford colliery.

It is part of the gas works , the entrance to that was on Bradford Road .
Well the big gates and offices were there .
One gasometer was on the corner of Hulme Hall Lane and Bradford Road, near the iron rail viaduct bridge .
Hulme Hall Lane split to become Mill St. where the iron works were ,and Forge Lane both leading to Ashton New Road.,near the New Royal Cinema and the Rectory.
Every kind of shop was on that busy road ,no need to go,in to Manchester  centre .
