If you're going to be in Jersey the best place is the Jersey Archive, it's open all day (apart from lunch time) Tues, Wed and Thursday. Volunteer helpers are almost always on duty and very helpful staff. Bring photographic ID if you need to view original records although many are available on the in house computers.
