James or Jimmy Curtis
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 05:31 BST (UK) »
Hi
Im trying to gather some information on James or Jimmy Curtis of Ethel creek station near Nullagine western Australia.
He was the overseer or manager of Ethel creek station or murramunda station somewhere between 1900 to 1915 .
He partnered a aboriginal woman named mary  from the area and a child name Ethel Billabong was born from this union.
Ethel married John Saviour Phillips
Not sure of his or her movements afterwards.
Thanks

Have you looked on http://trove.nla.gov.au ?

There seem to be a few mentions of a James Curtis of Ethel creek in the Bankruptcy Act section of the newspapers in 1914 and then in 1922 a notice to his creditors as he had passed away.
Prangnell, Chapman, How, Mumford, Henwood, Owen, Wormald, Robins, Bendall, Turner, Ayton, Watts, Baker, Wiltshire, Longman, Moody, Talbot.

There is also a James Curtis who died in Perth in 1921 that may line up with those articles. https://bdm.justice.wa.gov.au/_apps/pioneersindex/

Hi there,

When was Ethel born and do you know where? Have you managed to locate a possible birth certificate for her? Depending on whether Jimmy listed himself on her birth there might be some information about him there.

Do you have her marriage certificate? Does it show him and any information about him or her mother?

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/26908965?searchTerm=%22James%20Curtis%22
 - this particular article confirms that in 1910 James purchased Murramunda station but it seems could not get the stock to make it a going concern and went bankrupt.
