Hi David,

Squinting through a jeweller's eyeglass at the microfiche I just happen to have for Haslingfield (I disposed of the reader a long time ago) I cannot find this birth of Mercy. Any other clues.

I think this arises from the 70 plus trees on Ancestry which have the marriage of Mercy Ridgewell to Samuel Patman in 1740 in Kingston Cambs. None has any sources for Mercy's baptism.
She would be 30 at marriage if 1710 were correct. Could she be a widow and Ridgewell not her maiden name?

There are a number of children baptised to Samuel and Mercy in Kingston, some have mother's name as Mary. Can't see a Samual Patman marrying a Mary in similar place and timeframe. Could Mercy be Mary - could look similar if badly written in register.

There is a Mercy PATMAN bapt in Haslingfield in 1810, could people have got confused with her?
