Mystery of Wilfred Baddeley
« on: Thursday 22 August 19 02:00 BST (UK) »
I am hoping to solve the mystery of Wilfred baddeley son of Joseph and Mary Ann (nee Thomas) Baddeley. He was the illegitimate son of Mary born 7th feb 1905.
In 1911 neither Joseph nor Mary are down as having no children, address 11 Broom St.
Next door at no. 9  was a Wilfred Parkin same age  but does not seem to have a birth record.
In 1901 Census Joseph Baddeley was at 1 Back Charles St. Was Mary Ann Thomas b 1880 Hanley or George Parkin b 1874 Manchester living in the same area close to Joseph.
It is possible that George and his wife raised Wilfred Baddeley as Wilfred Parkin.
 Any feedback or ideas welcome
 Val Newman

Sounds like Wilfred's father was not Joseph Baddeley, hence no children shown for them in 1911 i.e. no children had been born to the 2 of them.

It's more than feasible that the Parkin's initially brought up the child but that later he joined his mother and Joseph and he took on the Baddeley name (his legal name would have been Thomas) - he certainly married and died as Baddeley.

If this is the Parkin family in 1911  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW74-KTF the GRO Birth index does list a Wilfred Parkin as below  that fits in with the other children listed in 1911 in terms of mothers maiden name  :-\

PARKIN, WILFRID        Mothers maiden name MANLEY
GRO Ref: 1905  March Qtr  STOKE UPON TRENT  Vol 06B  Page 234

Seems a bit of a way to go to get married as they are both born in Hanley Stoke on Trent and are living there in 1901 1911 and still there in 1939 which is why I wanted to be sure that we have the right couple

I got the date of birth from the 1939 census to tie up with the birth certificate reference I'm hoping that Val has the birth and marriage certificates to confirm the information
