Stapley buyer

Does anyone know what a "Stapley buyer" is/was?

it is on a probate, so no info for that person see attached

Was 'Stapley' not his surname and 'buyer' his occupation?

There is a chance it was, but it says "to John Pearson retired farmer" note no comma - so is his name "John Pearson retired farmer"?

It could be "Ernest Pearson Stapley, buyer" - note comma inserted, there are a number of Ernest Pearson Stapley's in Kent. 

However, if John was his father, it would have been more likely for him to be Ernest Pearson, also I could not find a marriage for John Pearson to a Miss Stapley in Kent or Sussex for a double-barreled surname and being a farmer he would be unlikely to have traveled much.

The probate books don't use punctuation between names etc.
John Pearson was a retired farmer and Ernest Pearson Stapley was a buyer.

Ernest Pearson Stapely was an assistant draper which could fit with being a buyer. He married Daisy (Clara Daisy Relf?). His parents were Charles & Hannah.

Staple is a medieval term relating mostly to the wool trade.  I don't know if the word was still in use at the time of your probate document, and it's a bit of a long shot, but could Ernest Pearson have been a buyer of bundles of wool?

But surely, as aghadowey pointed out, the man's name was Ernest Pearson Stapley, and his occupation was 'buyer'

I agree with aghadowey and JenB.

Wills and probate documents traditionally don't contain commas.  What we used to call 'proper nouns', e.g. names of people and places, have upper case initial letters and other ('common') nouns like objects, animals, and occupations are in lower case.  Thus John Smith Baker and John Smith baker are two different people, and Mr Stapley was a buyer.
