MEDLAND: 1851 lookup please

trying to find a George Medland born abt 1796/7 devon. In 1841 he was living Stpaple hill, hampreston. Wife Jane. Interested in any other Medlands as well

I tried the Dorset OPC site www.dorset-opc.com for MEDLAND.  It didn't have the 1851 census but it came up with two MEDLAND baptisms:


Hampreston BAPTISMS 1731 - 1817
20-Jan 1868: Mary Ann daughter of Frederick & Mary Ann MEDLAND
09-Jul  1871:Lucy Augusta daughter of Frederick & Mary Ann MEDLAND

Could Frederick be the son of your George and Jane ? The ages could be about right

George Medland does not appear to have been at home for the 1841 census, which shows only his wife Jane (40) straw joiner, and children Sarah (20), Mary (15), William ( and John (6) -  all born outside the county.
In 1851 the family was at Hurn Down, Hampreston:
George (54) quack doctor, b. East Ogwel, Devon
Jane (53), b.St Mary Church, Devon
William H (17) ag.lab., b. Yeovil, Somerset
John (15) ag.lab., b. Yeovil, Somerset
?Tah-- (4) grandson, b. Hampreston (Couldn't read the name!)
East Ogwell is a mile or two southwest of Newton Abbot. Marychurch is now part of north Torquay

Dont know what happened to William's age - he was age 8 in 1841.
