Hibbert family before 1740- Bolton, Lancashire
« on: Wednesday 14 August 19 13:28 BST (UK) »
I am really stuck and have hit a brick wall. I have managed to go back to the late 1700s on The Hibbert Family Tree but cannot go further back than this. I know its a big ask but I am trying to find a Thomas Hibberts family before 1742. He is born in the Bolton area around this time and he marries Martha Wright on the 23rd June 1767 at Saint Mary, Deane, Bolton, Lancashire. They have four children- William born 1768, Thomas 1770, Susannah 1772 who I have located further on and her daughter and Martha 1774. They are listed as Hubbard at Saint Katherines, Blackrod, Bolton in Parish Records. Their mother dies in 1777 and Thomas marries again of which I have been able to go a lot further. The flummox comes what happened to Thomas born 1770, William born 1768 and Martha born 1774. I cannot find them. Who is their fathers father? That is Thomas Hibbert born 1742. I know he has a brother 1738 called John and I have located him but not his baptism record due to old wills naming his brother as an executor.  Who is Martha Wrights parents born 1738- 1777? I know its a big ask but I would love to go back even further and I would be grateful for any help! Than you.

The Lancashire Online Parish Clerk has transcribed his name as Thomas Hubbard. May be worth searching on that variant too in your hunt for other records for the family.

EDITED: I see you are already considering Hubbard.

Yes I have tried all name variants. My Brick Wall is not going to be easily broken down this time I don't think.  Thank you.

Have you considered Titus Hibberd, baptised at St. Saviour, Ringley, 25th March 1739?  Parents Joseph & Phoebe, abode Pilkington. Baptisms for children with those parents include John (1737), Alice, Sarah, Mary, Jenny and Anne. Abode, where stated, Outwood or Radcliffe. There is a possible marriage for John at Prestwich and a baptism of Phoebe who may have been his daughter. (Lancashire Online Parish Clerks)

Any chance they may have been Non-Conformist?

I had never heard of Ringley but as you said it is near Bolton and I am very interested by this lead. Thank you.

On the otherhand Deane & Blackrod are to the west of Bolton and Pilkington/Ringley are to the east and part of the township of Bury
