Looking for info on Alicia Browne born around 1/05/1870. Her father was Samuel and she had siblings called Samuel, Robert, Sarah and possilbly another sister. They are believed to have come from Armagh.
Any help would be great
Thanks
Louise

Hiya Louise,

Did the family leave Armagh and settle elsewhere? I looked in the Ulster Covenant 1912.
I found no Brownes with these Christian names there. Which branch of the Christian faith did the family follow?

Best Wishes, Christopher

Not really sure Christopher. Think it may have been protestant.
Thanks

Hiya Louise,

I looked at Griffiths Valuation of Ireland which took place in Co. Armagh in 1864.

It showed three Samuel Brownes.

1. in the townland of  Lisnisk in the parish of Loughgilly
2. in the townlaind of Drumilly in the parish of Loughgall
3. in the townland of Clady Beg in the parish of Kilclooney

I presume you have worked back to this point and are stuck. You have a few generations between 1870
and todays date. Do you have a given name that looks like a surname ... possibly that of Alicia's mother?

Best Wishes, Christopher

Hi Christopher
Thanks for your help. unfortunately I am really stumped by Alicia Browne. The details I have posted are all that I have. I wonder how she got from Armagh to Tyrone ? She worked as a housekeeper/cook for a wealthy family near Strabane. The only guess I have is that might have arrived here through the hiring fairs. What do you think ?
