looking for any information to do with Henry Smith born 1817 Upper Slaughter. transported on the Mangles 1839, thanks Noeline Donaldson, New Zealand

Just checking you have the right Henry Smith. The one you say was convicted of Breaking and entering and stealing. Sentence : 10 years. Departure date:    21st November, 1839. Arrival date:    27th April, 1840. NSW.
There is a Henry Smith, Mangles (6), Recommended Conditional Pardon 1846

There is also another Henry Smith 1833 Mangles. who got Ticket of Leave in 1843, Conditional Pardon 1848.

I think as there are so many Henry SMITH s we need to wait till Noelene can confirm which is the correct family in Australia, presumably working back from a known ancestor.

As has been demonstrated many times on rootschat, trees on Ancestry are not necessarily correct.

Single; butcher; 5’7 1/4”; aged 26yrs; Protestant; can read & write; fresh complexion; brown hair; grey eyes.
Native place of birth - Warwickshire, Birmingham.

If he was convicted in Montgomery Quarter Sessions he may also have been born there.
