I hope this sort of query is OK.
I have a couple of individuals whose birth certificates show their place of birth as “Campsie”, or “Campie”, Kilham, Northumberland. The dates are Sep 1852 (William Scott) and Dec 1854 (Agnes Scott).
I cannot locate this place (presumably an individual property) using various old OS maps I found on a couple of the usual mapping sites, ie “Old OS maps” and “NLS maps”; but on the 1851 Kilham census form, (which covers a fairly small area), there is a “Campsy” included that appears as the final entry for Kilham, after Langham Bridge Toll, but before “Longknowe” which is on a separate page of its own. So possibly somewhere away from the main hamlet of Kilham.
My relevant ancestor’s parents are not living there in 1951 or in later censuses however.
Has anyone heard of a “Campsie” or “Campsy” in this area before?
Paul
