A tree on Ancestry has a daughter listed for Benjamin and Rose who emigrated to New Zealand, married, had children and died in 1992

I did wonder if she’d married as I’d found a 1992 death for J L Burgess on findagrave and P A & J L Burgess on NZ Electoral register

Edit - STAN54 - it maybe worth contacting the tree owner (her surname is Leggett)
as there are 6 persons whose names are marked as private

Hello all, many thanks for your replies and the information sourced. I'm just now waiting to hear back from Sandra to see if any of this helps. Ladyhawk, it is most probable that the family came from Bandon Road.

I am interested in Leggetts, especially with Suffolk origins. My grandfather had a sister, Lavinia Leggett, b Hartlepool 1892.  I welcome any correspondence on the subject. Was she a Leggett by birth or marriage?

Yes, that's my lot, and my original thread. The tree belongs to my half-first cousin. I'm always very interested in anything new, especially about the father, George, b Corton, 1837, of both Lavinia and my grandfather, and their 4 and a half siblings.

Hello all, having heard back form Sandra it would seem that some of you have been on the right track. A son a daughter in law from New Zealand have been traced - other people have been on the case no doubt. They will be shown this thread on here.

Thank you for contributing and helping with this. If anyone is interested in another challenge I had this in the same e-mail from Sandra this morning which I've cut and pasted:

'Do you know the lady we call ‘baby Margaret’? Margaret McKay was the youngest survivor at 6 months old and her mother Ellen Ridgway (no ‘e’ in the middle) died in the disaster holding baby Margaret above her head to save her. Margaret comes to our Memorial Services every year and has never been able to find anyone related to her mother. Her father remarried and never told her until she was 16 that her real mother had died. She would really love to find anyone that was related to Ellen, but has always drawn a blank. Maybe the Rootchat people could help?'

(I've asked for more information if she has any to send it and I'll update accordingly.
Thanks to all again for helping with the first request).

Stan54.

RIDGWAY, ELLEN
Died 03/03/1943
Aged 28
Civilian War Dead
of 24 Brierly Street. Wife of Spr. G. Ridgway, R.E. in Tube Shelter accident.

https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/3125520/ridgway,-ellen/

Possible marriage:

Marriages Dec 1934

EDWARDS,    Ellen J
RIDGWAY,    George
Bethnal G.    1c   319

I can see what may be the birth of the lady you mentioned in 1942.  In 1939 they have no other children with them.

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

If she knows her father's date of birth you can check it against the 1939 register to see if it is the right couple.  I assume she has obtained a copy of her birth certificate at some stage and knows her mother's maiden surname.

This birth appears to tick all the boxes:

EDWARDS, ELLEN  JANE
Mother's maiden surname: REDDING
GRO Reference: 1914  S Quarter in BETHNAL GREEN  Volume 01C  Page 339

Possible marriage of parents:

Marriages Jun 1914

EDWARDS, Alfred
REDDING,    Ellen M (should be Ellen N)
Bethnal G.    1c   309

From the marriage register, they are both aged 22, Alfred is a news vendor of 13 Camden Street, father Archibald a hawker (deceased).  Ellen Norah is a box maker of 19 Camden Street, father John a bricklayer.

It looks like Ellen Jane may have been Alfred and Ellen's only surviving child which may be why your lady has not been able to find anyone related to her mother.  You would need to go back one more generation and then try to come forward with Alfred and Ellen's siblings.
