Hi,  I note your thread is about 10 years ago, but I'm new to the site.

I'm not sure if you have finished your family tree but I'm a French who's roots are in Aldwincle.  There is more than one French family there, and not all related, mainly because a lot of their ancestors came from the big prison camp for French Navy/Soldiers based at Yaxley soon  renamed Norman Cross.  Many settled after the Napoleonic War ended and as Locals could not pronounce their French names they were known as 'them Frenchy's' - hence the name stuck!  You will find a big pocket of them along from the A1 area right through the main road to the A43, they followed the road in those days.
I'm from Robert and Margaret French [nee Robinson]lineage. [my great grandparents] My father is 87 [Dennis French] and still alive.  I think he is the last remaining French from that era and who remembers it like it was.  I'm not sure if you're a relative  but any help on family trees would help

I'm stuck so any help appreciated - Jan French
