RN deaths
« on: Saturday 13 July 19 15:39 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I have recently found a death for one of my relatives. He was on the HMS Princess Royal and died on 7 August 1915. The CWGC site gives no details but I found another naval death list (attached) but am no closer to finding out how he died. His death (under Cause) is listed a 3, but I have searched in vain for what this means. From other similar documents I don't believe he was killed in action. Can anyone enlighten me as to what the numbers on the attached document mean.

Regards

Doesn't help with what your man died of but the ship was at Rosyth at the time of his death

Hi

Cause of death seems to be Pulmonary Tuberculosis (7 days).  Died at 6.45pm on 7th August 1915 at the Royal Naval Hospital in Abercorn(?).  Bearing in mind he was a Sick Berth Steward he could well have caught it on board.

Thanks for replying so quickly.
Tony
I did look at the log for the ship, but I looked closer to the date of his death, where I thought it might have been mentioned. I didn't think to look further back to see what had happened to him as I thought he might have died as result of an accident or the like, on board. Thanks for the info.
