Fletcher Family. Lapworth and Aston. Warwickshire
« on: Saturday 13 July 19 13:08 BST (UK) »
My father (Frank Graham Fletcher) was a descendent of the prolific Fletcher lot in Warwickshire. His father (Albert Archibald Fletcher) took Dad (FGF), as a child in the 1930's, to visit Lapworth and told him 'this is where our family comes from'.

We have traced the Fletchers in Lapworth from 1394 to the 1790s when they suddenly disappear and re-emerge in Aston, Birmingham about 1830, just at the time when the canals and railways were making their appearance in that area. But, frustratingly, we don't have the family members for the change over period (about two generations?)

We would like to close the gap and ask; Does anybody have any relevant Fletcher contacts or insights into this matter? All thoughts gratefully received.

Hallo, again.

No answers yet, just two questions:

What is the earliest birth after 1837 (name, date, location if known, and parents' names) you have in your modern line?

Have you found the family on early censuses (1841 & 1851) - the first names of the parents, with the names, ages, and birthplaces of the children would be useful .

After 1837 we can find the mother's maiden name from the birth registration then check back for a marriage on parish registers.

Philip

Wow! That was quick. Thank you Phillip.

Earliest concrete Aston family member is a reference to Charles Paul Fletcher married down the road at St Martins Church in 1847 but somewhere there is a reference to his birth in Aston circa 1822. He is on the 1881 census aged 59 living at 19 High Park Street Aston.

Thank you for taking this up for me Phillip.

Thank you Keyboard86.

Gosh that was quick!

Yes Charles Paul Fletcher and Elleanor Shuttleworth did have a son called Cornelius Percival Fletcher and they also had a son called James Forrester Francis Fletcher who was born in Aston 1850 and was a brass dresser. It is James FFF from whom I am descended. I did not know that about Charles PFs occupation or his birthplace. On his marriage certificate 1847 he was a grocer at the time. I think we have the same person here Keyboard86 that's great news. Thank You

As a family we think that Charles PF was a child of ?Joseph Fletcher and it is at this point back to Lapworth 1790s that we loose the plot so if you are picking up anything on that or before Charles PF it would be absolutely amazing. Thank you once again.

Yes, you did and Thank You so much. It really starts to close the gap in time so Thank You once again for this amazing help. I will continue to drill down on this one unless you have access to anything more about Joseph and Mary Fletcher and prior to them.

Kind regards
