Have just had "hint" from Ancestry that there is a record of a Uk Silver War Badge for Victor Edward Grover (1897 - 1980). Not being a paying member of the site I am unable to look up the details. Would someone be able to look this up for me and let me know what info is on it please. Regards Tina

If you live in the UK, then most libraries have access to Ancestry.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids. They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Royal Air Force:
Victor Edward Grover, father Thomas William Grover. Birth place - West Ham. Date of birth 11 August 1895. Service date 28 May 1918. Service No: 189522. In France 28.8.1918 to 16.8.1919. Previous service = 23rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers to 13.4.1916.
Images available on FindMyPast, and it appears to be the same Victor Edward Grover.
Added: His earlier Army record is also available to view on FindMyPast.

That is definitely the right one then. My husband only knew his grandfather was in army didn't know about him being in the air force. Am not a paying member of findmypast. Thankyou for that info. Tina

His RAF record is on Ancestry under Pensions. There's not much there except to say his application was rejected. It does say he was a motor mechanics assistant so much needed by the newly formed RAF.
