Lookup Please - John Roberts & Elizabeth Rowland

I am trying to locate more information about my ancestors John Roberts and Elizabeth Rowland.  Below, I have found information about their marriage, but because it occurred prior to 1837 I have been having a hard time getting a copy through the normal channels.  The main thing that I need to find out is their parents names and information so I can look further back.

Parish of Hinton St Mary  MARRIAGES 1732 to 1847

Transcribed  from the Bishops Transcripts and randomly checked against Parish Registers  to 1805, by Lynda Mudle-Small,
December 2002. The parish registers record marriages from 1581.
1808 John ROBERTS bachelor & Elizabeth ROWLAND spinster both of this parish were married 6-Dec by banns (BT)

John was born in about 1788, Elizabeth was born about the same time.  Their children include:  Luke, Matthew, John, Mark Rowland, Ester and Louisa Jane.  The brothers immigrated to Newfoundland, Canada in approximately 1849 where Mark and John settled in Bonne Bay, Newfoundland.

I also cannot find the same information in any of my other search sites (Ancestry.com, Family Search, etc.).  I would appreciate it if you could advise me how I can go about ordering a certificate or if there is someone in the area that can scan a copy and email it to me. 

I am stuck on these two people and cannot go further until I can get their marriage certificate.

found on dorset opc baptisms george 1792 and james 1787,sons of john and sarah roberts.
deborah and susan 1793 daughters of matthew and elizabeth rowland.
these are the only couples having children at that time with these surnames and bearing in mind one of john and elizabeth's kids was named matthew,think this is probably your family, hope helps.

 I don't know if they are the correct people or not though because the names don't really match up but I do appreciate you taking a look for me though.   

I'm going to see if I can find someone who can go to the local registry and pull out the actual marriage certificate - if there even is one.  I think it may be too early.

Actually I just found out that the Roberts or Rowland name may have come from Germany - this opens a whole new world of possibilities.

Oh well....the search continues!

Pleased to report that chloed is on the right trail!
It is not normally possible to get any sort of "certificate" for baptisms, marriages or burials before 1837, and the parish registers vary greatly in the amount of detail they contain. In the case of John ROBERTS and Elizabeth ROWLAND the register gives little more information than you have already. First one correction: they were married by licence not by banns. They both signed the marriage register so they were at least literate to that extent. The witnesses do not appear to have been related to them - at least neither of them were called ROBERTS or ROWLAND.
I have looked through the Hinton St Mary registers between 1780 and 1810, and it seems almost certain that John parents were John ROBERTS and Sarah DODWELL, who were married in HStM by banns on 17 October 1785. They had a number of children, among them John - baptised on 30 August 1789.
I think Elizabeth's parents were Matthew ROWLAND and Elizabeth MULLENS, who were married in HStM by banns on 21 September 1786. They also had a number of children, among them Elizabeth - baptised at the age of 3 years on the same day as a one-year-old brother: 7 July 1790.
All four were "of this parish" so I hope you will be able to go back further with this information.

If I could get to you I'd kiss you!!! LOL.  You don't know how long I've been looking for this information!  I truly appreciate you taking the time to look this up for me. 

I am trying to scan all documents that I can, is there any paperwork that can be scanned or sent to me?  Or am I pushing it?
