Hello, thanks for all the advice and suggestions, really helpful. I don't unfortunately have the marriage certificate for John Armstrong who married in 1894. I have however found the record on irishgenealogy website. It noted his father's name as John Armstrong and that he was a farmer. I haven't used GRONI yet, so that is my next task, to set up an account there with user credits. As you say, people from that time didn't move around much, so there is likely to be a connection I think. I will look further.
