I have just found something interesting in Thrulines.

One distant match sharing 11 cMs I have been in touch with before.

We share 5G grandparents from Buckinghamshire and potentially 5G grandparents from Oxfordshire.

When I first saw the match I thought it was with the latter, a potential brick wall broken down, but on further investigation I found the known connectIon.

Thrulines has given the second relationship first, but says 'View more possible connectIons', which shows the other relationship.

I just wish I could prove the Oxfordshire relationship to my satisfaction, a major brick wall with my 4G grandmother. That line ends there, as she had 3 children before marriage, no indication of the father's name.

Does this help? (From the introduction tutorial)

ThruLines has found potential ancestors that are not related to me. Can I choose not to see these people?

If a potential ancestor does not support what you know about your family's history, you may contact the family tree owner associated with that person to correct any errors or make changes. You may also want to review relevant records and family trees to determine if there actually is a relationship.

It's making us do the work by  having to contact the tree owner, point out the error of their ways and then hope they see the light and remove the person.  And if they do - will it remove the potential ancestor?  It would be much easier to have a discard/hide option - do I really care that their tree is wrong.

The only sure way to combat it is to find the appropriate person yourself I suppose.

Wonder if creating spurious persons in our trees for our unknown ancestors  would sort the problem.

I've added a few ancestors that I wouldn't normally have put on my tree as I don't have enough evidence, I've added the "hypothesis" tag so others can tell that, I found that after a few days they replaced the potential ancestors in Thrulines.I was particularly miffed about a potential great grandmother as my nana has two mothers on my tree, her biological and adoptive but eventually Thrulines caught up.

BIB - that is interesting. I have a great grandmother on my tree with both her natural and adoptive parents. I will have to look to see if Thrulines have suggested any connections to the adoptive parents (they have confirmed the natural parents beyond doubt with bone fide matches)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

My problem with thrulines is they disappear. On some days I have them and other days not enough information in my tree to have thrulines. I just assume someone somewhere is "updating the system".

I just ignore the "green potential ancestors" and focus on "known verifiable" ancestors.
