There is a Maud Haliday in 1911 census- age 4 (born c1907), born Belfast-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Tamlaght/Drumnacanon/592362

In the same household is a Maggie Haliday age 14 born Philadelphia. Possibly Margaret J. Halliday born 1897 Philadelphia- parents John Halliday & wife Jane- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBT6-M5B
Family in 1900 U.S. census- father John born May 1870 Ireland-

Possible marriage John H. Holliday to Jennie A. Tompkins in Pennington, New Jersey (not that far from Philadelphia)-

John Hallidy born Apr.1871 Drumlane parents James Hallidy & Margaret Jane Brownlow (matches family in 1911 census)-

Many thanks for the prompt reply.  Hessie HALLIDAY was an illegitimate child b.1937 so the only thing I have to go on his her mother's name Maud which would probably put her in the 1917- 21 year of birth but I could be wrong she could have been older.

Not 100% sure yet the family I posted is the correct one- still searching. It's possible 'Maud' is Matilda, Maud is her middle name, etc.

No problems.  It is just that Hessie was adopted in 1941 by the Simpsons and it wasn't until 40 years later when she applied for a passport that the "secret" came out.

Suppose you've looked for a connection between Maud and adoptive parents? Did Maud ever try to apply for/trace adoption records before she died?

Haven't a clue.  What if David SIMPSON's wife was a HALLIDAY?

She was adopted on 19th March 1941 by David & Margaret Mary Simpson from "Lynwood" Glenburn Road Dunmurry
Entry was 347 Dated 3rd April 1941 County Court County of Antrim  Division of BELFAST date of Birth 13th December 1937
We got the certificate Copy 4th March 1976

Before Esther SIMPSON aka Hessie HALLIDAY died she didn't make contact because up until 1976 she didn't know she was adpoted.
